O teor deste artigo seria impensável alguns anos atrás no âmbito da academia. Por sorte, as ideias, os pontos de vista e inclusive os paradigmas, evoluem. A amplitude e também a ambiguidade do tema, possibilitam um devaneio à procura de elos entre fatos – o objeto artístico – e pressupostos – as ideias por trás dos mesmos. De fato, após dois milênios de raciocínio e pensamento crítico, continuamos, como bem diz Mc Evilley, no ponto de partida. Assim pois, o presente artigo pretende apenas mapear, à maneira de um esboço quadrimensional, sem pretender estabelecer ordenamentos diacrônicos ou sincrônicos dos desdobramentos e das possíveis inter-relações entre arte e esoterismo a serem nele enumerados.
