Abstract

Lady Gaga is one of the most influential artists today, known for exploring in a controversial way themes such as religion and spirituality in her performances. Through the analysis of the 911 video clip authored by the artist, in intersection with the cinematographic work which served as her aesthetic inspiration, The Color of the Pomegranates, symbols linked to Armenian religiosity will be pointed out, focusing on the historical problematic that involves Armenia’s identity viewed through pop language, as questions are raised about cultural appropriation.
