Researching the presence and participation of women in the various social spaces is urgent, since historical narratives, including those of the History of Art, offer the means to legitimize discourses about individuals and to foster the construction of social memory. The VI Encounter of Modern Art held in 1974, in Curitiba - Paraná, was the only one of the eleven editions to have the organization conducted exclusively by women. Regarding this object of study, I ask if the peculiar coordination of the VI Encounter of Modern Art by women relates the event to Second Wave Feminism, and to the gender issues raised in the period. The present research has as its historical cut the year 1974, and presents a cross-sectional study of the VI Encounter of Modern Art, with the help of bibliographic sources, the archive of written and pictorial materials prepared by the participants during the event, photographs and interviews, including with the coordinator Josely Carvalho.
