This research had as general objective to investigate or use alternative materials in Chemistry Teaching in CAPES portal publications in the last 5 years. The work regarding the approach is classified as qualitative and regarding its objectives it is exploratory, but we can also classify it as bibliographic, since the form of data collection occurred through a literature review. The selection of articles was carried out on the CAPES portal using the option "any field", the descriptors were used: "alternative materials" and "Teaching Chemistry". An integrated synthesis was performed for data analysis. Our results showed several possibilities for the use of alternative materials in chemistry teaching, such as experimentation, didactic models and games and at different teaching levels. In addition, regarding the possibilities of using alternative materials in Chemistry Teaching, the works analyzed show that these are an alternative for schools that do not have a laboratory; this alternatives material replaces as effective material and laboratory reagents, and that it is an important strategy in promoting the learning of abstract drawings. This work contributes to a sober reflection on the use of alternatives materials in our chemistry as an example of sustainability, overcoming challenges, overcoming structural deficits and institutional precariousness, which is an incentive for teachers' creativity.
