With the numerous transformations occuring in our society due to man’s improper actions towards nature the environment, it becomes essential to address these issues with students. By doing so, we aim to reach as many people as possible who are aware of the consequences of human actions. During Human and Natural Sciences classes, we promote moments of reflection, sensitization, and awareness, encouraging students to understand and analyze the environment in which they live. This involves observing, creating, and developing actions to ensure and improve the quality of natural resources, thereby guaranteeing the improvement of life quality on our planet. Thus, at the end of May 2021, when I reached the 5th grade class and before starting the lesson contente, we customarily opened space for a dialogue circle discussing topics of interest to the students. On this day, we addressed na issue widely debated in the region where many of the students live, including the área surrounding the school – Bairro Cidade Jardim. The topic was the rains that, when they raise the levels of the levels of the River Iguaçu and River Vermelho, affect the Riverside population. During the discussion, we talked about the safety risks, the health and material damages due to water exposure, the lives of the animals inhabiting the flooded áreas, etc. One student, who lives in the flood zone, mentioned that he accompanies his father during the river’s high water days to remove trash that reaches their backyard. It was from this fact that the project idea developed.
