The text presented the analysis of the teaching experience, monitoring – in remote mode – and research carried out with 148 undergraduate students of the Pedagogy course, from the Education Center of the Federal University of Alagoas, students of the discipline “Knowledge and methodologies of teaching History I”. Qualitative in nature, the documentary analysis had as its research source the set of written texts produced by students, students of two academic semesters, in the years 2020 and 2021, and the appreciation of qualified academic production that addresses the teaching of History in the early years of elementary school. It was concluded that understanding current social issues is a content of central interest to undergraduate students. They seem to look to History for resources (knowledge) that make it possible to understand the reality they experience. They observe it as capable of revealing the historical processes of alienation, exclusion and silencing of historical subjects, therefore, they characterize History as a disciplinary field capable of explaining reality and guiding individual stance-taking.
