The present study is the result of research within the scope of the Professional Master's Program in Health and Environmental Sciences and aimed to conduct a bibliographic survey on teaching methodologies applied to martial arts in non-formal educational environments. To do this, it systematized the production of the theme in three different databases: CAPES, LILACS, and Scielo. The methodology was based on an integrative literature review using the following combinations of the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS), “Martial Arts” and “Teaching”, “Martial Arts” and “Teaching Method” and “Martial Arts” and “Teaching Technique”. The results led us to discuss 14 selected articles from the 1.219 found. The applied filters were based on: a) publications between 2012 and 2021, b) Portuguese language, c) teaching in non-formal education environments, d) teaching method or strategy reported in the abstract. The conclusion pointed to the use of some teaching strategies during martial arts classes and highlighted that the traditional and philosophical teaching proposal, which attributes to martial arts a relationship with the concept of originality, is still widely used. However, such methods are being abandoned to make way for student-centered methodologies, considering their previous experiences, playfulness and the pursuit of life quality.
