Abstract

Systemic conditions influence children's school performance and quality of life, and the school environment serves as support for health promotion measures. The objective of this project was to create a textbook through paintings on health promotion measures to prevent childhood obesity for schoolchildren in a socially vulnerable area in Bauru, São Paulo- Brazil. Initially, undergraduate and postgraduate students in Public Health went to school to carry out the diagnosis, later the problems were discussed and actions were planned aimed at healthy environments, nutrition and healthy habits in childhood through the development of a textbook constructed by children. The study included 65 students aged 10 to 12 who were studying the 6th year of elementary school at a state school in Bauru. The children participated directly in lectures on health and healthy habits, and there was full support from children and teachers in creating the material. Children in vulnerable areas acquired greater knowledge about health promotion strategies to improve the school and family environment, as well as greater awareness about harmful health behaviors during childhood, to minimize health inequities leading to a higher quality of life of schoolchildren.
