The Museological Plan (MP) is the most important strategic planning document for museums, consisting of different programs that translate the institution’s lines of action and the commitments to be undertaken in the coming years. The current MP of the Museu da Vida Fiocruz (MVF) (2023–2026), in addition to presenting an evaluation of the previous document and a contextual analysis, incorporates new programs that materialize the strategic direction of activities to be prioritized. One of these new programs is the Itinerancy Program, which reinforces the MVF’s accumulated experience in this model of action and strengthens its commitment to decentralizing science communication efforts. This paper analyses the Itinerancy Program of the MVF’s MP, highlighting its strategic importance in democratizing access to scientific culture and expanding the social role of museums. The program’s objectives, lines of action, institutional partnerships, knowledge production, among other potentialities of museum itinerancy, are discussed. The program represents a relevant innovation in the field of museum management and museum education by combining territorial mobilization, social inclusion, and the promotion of the right to science and culture. More than a set of practices, the presence of a program focused on itinerancy and traveling museum modalities in the institution’s most important official document demonstrates a strategic perspective on the subject and the assumption of responsibilities for the development of these initiatives and its underpinned ways of thinking and acting.
