Abstract

In a context that values educational practices integrating museums and schools, science museums stand out as spaces with great pedagogical potential and as important actors in science communication. This study investigated how the partnership between a science museum and a school can enhance science education and scientific dissemination, focusing on the teaching of entomology in the early years of elementary education. The research, qualitative in nature and based on an intervention approach, was conducted with a class of 29 third-grade students from a municipal public school in Guarapuava (PR), in partnership with the Museum of Natural Sciences. The activity, entitled “Planet Insect: a visit to the science museum”, consisted of observing the entomological collection, solving a problem-situation about insect camouflage strategies, and participating in discussions guided by museum educators. Data were collected through observations and field notes and analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the museum visit fostered integration between theory and practice, stimulating students’ curiosity and engagement. Enthusiasm during interactions, spontaneous questions, interest in solving the proposed challenge, and an expanded understanding of biodiversity and the ecological roles of insects were observed. It is concluded that the partnership between school and museum represents a promising path for science education, by promoting meaningful experiences that overcome the fragmentation of knowledge, strengthen science communication, and broaden students’ cultural repertoire.
