Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the life stories of entrepreneurial architects with the intention of finding similarities between their professional biographies. As this is a qualitative study, a narrative methodology was adopted, in which ten architects were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. The sample was selected by convenience, however, some conditions were set: the interviewee had to have less than 15 years since graduation, be a self-employed professional or have owned their business for more than a year, and have graduated from a higher education institution in the city where the study was conducted. These stories were compared with each other and with the narrative structure of the hero's journey—chosen as the central axis of analysis, which guided the researchers' interpretations. Among the main results was the identification of a common trajectory among all interviewees, demonstrating that the entrepreneurial path in architecture is similar, leading them to face comparable challenges when starting, managing, and maintaining their businesses or brands. From these results, the process of entrepreneurship for future architects is unveiled, as it presents a narrative mapping of challenges, allies, enemies, motivations, and other variables that influence businesses in this sector. Among the main contributions of this study are the adoption of narrative analysis as a methodological procedure, the choice of the hero's journey as a framework for comparison and analysis, and the understanding of the trajectory undertaken by architects who identify opportunities in business environments.
