Solid waste management is a topic that involves the three pillars of sustainability, be they society, the economy and the environment. The guiding principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are similar to the objectives aimed at developing solid waste management methodologies over the years. Circular economy models tend to contribute to sustainable development. Incorporating the circular economy into waste management systems can restore economic growth, in addition to promoting sustainable development. The article aimed to analyze case studies and good practices developed external to solid waste management systems, focusing on the three pillars of sustainability and the guiding principles of the SDGs. To this end, SREE (Systematic Review for Engineering and Experiments) was used, with scientific articles analyzed from the last five years. It is important to point out that the methodological quality (SREE stage) was not achieved, as it was not suitable for the research topic. The results showed that there are different management methods for solid waste management systems, which have been implemented in municipalities in different countries. Assim, verificou-se que há a necessidade de maiores investigações sobre a aplicabilidade de estudos, com foco em sistemas intermunicipais integrados.
