Abstract

The Brazilian agrarian space is marked by a series of conflicts since the beginning of the territorial occupation of Brazil; the Brazilian Amazon, since this period, is seen as a space that needed to be filled and developed economically and, for this, the Federal Government developed programs for territorial occupation. Therefore, this land occupied by indigenous communities, settlements and occupations of the Landless Movement, quilombolas, riverside dwellers, and several other groups that make up that space and are responsible for the propagation of the original Brazilian culture, and conservation units of extreme importance for the maintenance of the country’s biodiversity, are now devastated and exploited. The objective of this work is to discuss the conflicts present in the agrarian space of the Brazilian Amazon and to report how much the historical antecedents influence in the conflicting territorial development present in this space. Conflicts intensify each year and the number of families affected and murdered by agribusiness increases exponentially. Thus, the present discussion becomes pertinent to denounce the neglect arising from the Government and the large landowners present in this territory.
