Abstract

The rufous hornero builds nests used by other animals. Thus, the specie have an important ecosystem role for the reproduction of another species, especially in urban areas. In this sense, studies with this specie are getting advanced, but the results are fragmented. Therefore, this research aimed to quantify and synthesize accumulated knowledge about the bird in the neotropical region. The studies were obtained through a systematic search in a specialized platform. As a result, it was found that there is an accumulation of studies on the species at an average rate of 0.44 studies per year, with a significant increase in the last 20 years. Between the countries observed, Brazil stood out with 60.4% of the surveys, followed by Argentina with 30.23% and Uruguay with 13.95%. Among the 11 analyzed ecoregions, the Humid Pampa stood out with 25.49% of the studies. The lines of research that have gained prominence, from the first studies in the beginning of the 20th century, to the most recent, continue to focus on aspects of ecology that involve nesting.
