Abstract

Based on the notion of fields and habitus in Pierre Bourdieu, this text understands that there
are specific forms of domination in the scientific field. More precisely, there is an interpretation that
the biomedical subfield proposes itself as the reference field for all other subfields, based on the
determination of which processes are necessary for the realization of scientific research. This is
manifested, in particular, by the attempt to impose the monopoly of ethical review from norms
expressed by the research ethics committees, as well as the indication of submission of research
proposals by Plataforma Brasil, which adopts the parameters of the National Health Council. It is
argued that the submission to specific norms regarding research ethics disregards several
characteristics of the Human Sciences, which have ways of performing the ethical review from their
epistemological premises, which can be observed when considering which are the standards of ethical
review employed by journals in the area of education in the Qualis A1 stratum. It is, therefore, the
search to legitimize hierarchies of knowledge in the academy from the obligation to meet processes
that reinforce the vicious bureaucratic circle alien to the interest of scientific development.
